A korean dubai cookie is a Korean dessert that wraps the Dubai chocolate filling (pistachio cream plus toasted kataifi pastry) in a chewy shell of melted marshmallow, then rolls it in cocoa powder. It looks like a cookie but eats like a rice cake: soft, stretchy, then crunchy in the middle.

The base idea comes from Dubai chocolate, the pistachio-and-knafeh bar that went viral on TikTok in 2024. Wikipedia’s history of Dubai chocolate credits Sarah Hamouda and pastry chef Nouel Catis Omamalin with developing it in 2021 for FIX Dessert Chocolatier. Korea took that filling and swapped the snapping chocolate shell for something chewy.

A typical dujjonku weighs 40 to 60 grams, according to the Korea Times. It is small, dense and rich. One is a proper dessert, not a snack you eat three of.

2. Gato Cake Studio & Cafe: AED 29 a cookie

Gato Cake Studio sells Dubai chewy cookies one at a time, at AED 29 each according to a Korea Herald report from January 2026. It has spots on Al Mina Road and at Creek Beach in Dubai. Buying a single is the cheapest way to try one before you commit to a box.

The downside: singles add up fast if you are feeding a group, and it is Dubai only. Call ahead to check they have stock that day.

3. Casa de Flores: box of 4 for AED 65, delivered

Casa de Flores sells a Dubai chewy cookie box of 4 for AED 65, with each piece around 60 grams. It delivers across the UAE and is listed on Talabat, Deliveroo, Keeta, Careem and Noon. Its label lists wheat, eggs, soy, milk and pistachio, and says it may contain peanuts and other tree nuts.

The catch is Abu Dhabi: orders there need a AED 200 minimum plus a AED 50 delivery fee. For one box, that is a lot of extra money.

4. Chicha Bakehouse: Dubai cloud kitchen

Chicha Bakehouse is a Dubai cloud kitchen that Gulf News listed among UAE sellers of the Dubai chewy cookie. It does not publish a price. It is delivery only, so there is no counter to walk up to.

5. Munchies: Abu Dhabi, order ahead

Munchies is an Abu Dhabi cloud kitchen that takes orders on Instagram and WhatsApp. No published price. Useful if you are in Abu Dhabi and want delivery, but you have to plan ahead. There is no walk-in option.

Where did the korean dubai cookie come from?

The first korean dubai cookie is credited to Monte Cookie (몬트쿠키), a small bakery in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province. Seoul Shinmun reported in February 2026 that it was founded in August 2024 by Lee Yun-min and pastry chef Kim Na-ri. A regular customer asked them to make a Dubai-chocolate version of the bakery’s chewy cookie, and they did. Their cookie sold for around 10,000 won.

For about a year it stayed a bakery item. Then, in September 2025, Jang Won-young of the K-pop group IVE posted one on Instagram. Actress Kim Se-jeong posted one too. After that the chewy cookie went mainstream fast, and it was reported widely, including by Khaleej Times.

The chains moved in:
– CU, Korea’s big convenience store chain, launched a Dubai-style chewy rice cake in October and sold more than 1.8 million. In January 2026 it raised its Dubai-style choco cookie from 3,600 to 4,300 won. Its whole Dubai line has passed 8.3 million units.
– Paris Baguette Korea sells Dubai chewy balls and tarts at 5,000 to 10,000 won.
– Starbucks Korea launched a Dubai Chewy Roll on 30 January 2026.
– GS25, Emart24 and 7-Eleven all sell their own versions.

Korea JoongAng Daily called the craze one for all generations, with teenagers and grandparents queuing for the same cookie. That is the loop that brought it back to the UAE: a Dubai dessert went to Korea, became a Korean dessert, and came home.

Who is Chef Nouel Catis?

Chef Nouel Catis (Nouel Catis Omamalin) is a Filipino pastry chef and the co-creator of Dubai chocolate. The National’s profile of Chef Nouel Catis says he worked at Burj Al Arab in the early 2000s, was an in-flight chef at Etihad, launched his own brand, Sna’ap, in 2024, and created an “Abu Dhabi Chocolate” bar.

To be clear about the history: Chef Nouel Catis did not invent the korean dubai cookie. Monte Cookie in Korea did. What Chef Nouel Catis makes is his own Dubai Chewy Cookie, built on the filling he helped create. Mukbang Shows sells it in the UAE as his official seller.

How is dujjonku made?

Most Korean recipes follow the same four steps:
1. Toast the kataifi. Shredded kataifi (kadaif) pastry is fried in butter until golden and crisp.
2. Make the filling. The crisp kataifi is mixed with pistachio cream, and some recipes add white chocolate.
3. Wrap it. Marshmallows are melted, sometimes with butter and cocoa, into a stretchy dough that is wrapped around a ball of filling.
4. Dust it. The ball is rolled in cocoa powder so it does not stick.

The marshmallow shell gives the chew. The kataifi gives the crunch. The pistachio holds it together. Without the marshmallow you are back to a Dubai chocolate filling, and without the kataifi it is just a chewy chocolate ball.

• Size: a Dubai chocolate bar is a slab to share. A dujjonku is one 40–60 g portion.

Is the korean dubai cookie a mochi cookie?

Not technically, but it is close enough that everyone calls it one. Real mochi is made from glutinous rice. The korean dubai cookie usually gets its chew from marshmallow, not rice. The texture is so similar to tteok (Korean rice cake) that “mochi cookie” stuck.

So if you are searching “mochi cookie Dubai”, “Korean Dubai chewy cookie” or “Dubai chocolate chewy cookie”, you are looking for the same thing. CU in Korea does sell a genuinely rice-based version, a Dubai-style chewy chapssaltteok (찹쌀떡), so the rice-cake version exists too.

Is the korean dubai cookie halal in the UAE?
